Jakarta (ANTARA) – Chairperson of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI), Erick Thohir, drew attention to the potential of sportainment in beach soccer in Indonesia by integrating sports and tourism.

Thohir spotlighted this aspect while attending the opening of the Indonesian Beach Soccer Cup at Genah Melati Beach in Legian, Bali, on Friday.

Sportainment is a blend of sports and entertainment, referring to the practice of combining athletic events with engaging entertainment elements to attract a wider audience.

"We believe that beach soccer in Indonesia has great potential if it collaborates with the tourism sector. Beach soccer can be an important part of building sportainment in Indonesia," he noted in a PSSI statement on Saturday.

On the same occasion, the PSSI chairperson also underlined the importance of developing Indonesia's beach soccer national team to achieve international-level achievements.

"We will continue to encourage Indonesia's beach soccer national team to improve so that it can clock achievements at the Southeast Asia and Asia levels," he affirmed.

In this regard, he called on the Indonesian Beach Soccer Association (ASPI) to focus on improving the national team's ranking and urged private parties that hold competitions to manage them maximally.

"In the years to come, many improvements must be made in this event," he stressed.

The Indonesian Beach Soccer Cup, scheduled to be held until December 14, is expected to be an important opportunity to improve the national team's quality and boost beach soccer's popularity in Indonesia.
